Hot Tip - Correct bonding even with temperature fluctuations
In the course of a year, the temperature difference in Germany can be over 40°C. Such temperature fluctuations have immense effects on hot-melt adhesives. Even if there is an outside door in the vicinity of the bonding station, leading to temperature fluctuation due to opening and closing, changes in the behaviour of the adhesive must be reckoned with. As a general rule, reduced open and setting times are to be expected at lower temperatures and an extension of the times at higher temperatures.
For this reason, the setting of the system must always be adapted to the temperature conditions. At low temperatures, the application temperature can be increased slightly; at higher temperatures it should be lowered.
However, these changes must be within the range that corresponds to the hot-melt adhesive used. If the temperature is too low, it can, for example, change its viscosity.
For a qualitatively consistent bonding result, it is crucial to keep the temperature as constant as possible. If the temperatures change, the adhesive area must, for example, be encapsulated or air conditioned.
