Cohesive failure
Adhesive and cohesive failures failures are the two most common forms of failure of an adhesive bond.
Cohesive failures can occur in both the adhesive and the substrate (see substrate failure).
In the case of cohesive failure, the adhesion to the substrate is greater than the cohesion in the adhesive joint. In the fracture pattern, the adhesive continues to cover both sides of the joined parts.
The aim of a successful bond is a cohesive failure pattern.
