Wide slot nozzles

Wide slot nozzles are used in hot-melt bonding technology to apply adhesive over a large area and evenly as a thin film. They are used particularly in industries that require precise and efficient adhesive distribution, such as the packaging, construction and automotive industries. Especially in the packaging industry, wide slot nozzles are used in conjunction with a pressure sensitive hot-melt adhesive in the area of carton sealing.

Structure of a wide slot nozzle                                                                    

The nozzle consists of an inlet, a distribution channel (for even material distribution) and a precise slot that determines the thickness of the adhesive layer. It is made of robust material such as aluminium, in order to guarantee even bonding with a precise edge and a constant height.

The narrow, wide outlet opening of the wide slot nozzle allows the adhesive to be easily applied as a thin film. The pressure is kept constant across the entire width to ensure an evenly thin application.

Aluminium has a high thermal load capacity and thermal conductivity, which is of great importance when processing hot-melt adhesives. It is also corrosion-resistant and lightweight, which extends the life of the nozzle.

Wear on wide slot nozzles

Nozzles are wearing parts. To ensure a clean application, they should be regularly cleaned of adhesive residue. If there are deviations in the amount of adhesive applied, increased pressure is required during application, or there is visible damage to the nozzle, it should be replaced.
