Adhesive surface
The adhesive surface refers to the surface of adherends onto which the adhesive is applied to create a connection.
Unevenness of the surface
At high magnification, it can be seen that surfaces that normally appear smooth are not actually smooth at all – they consist of unevenness similar to that of a crater landscape. In order for adherends to stick together (adhesion), the adhesive must adequately cover the adhesive surface. A low surface tension of the adhesive ensures that it sufficiently fills the unevenness of the adherends, thus enabling large-area bonding.
